Notes: |
Celts lost to Ely Rangers 5-1 at Trelai today, but the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story. Playing against the wind in the first half, Celts contrived to give the game away with 2 own goals and a defensive mix-up in the first 25 minutes. At the other end of the pitch, Celts were spurning good chances to get into the game and went into the break 4 nil down.
Things could only get better in the second-half, and Rhys Hawkins' fabulous headed goal gave the greens a lift within 5 minutes of the restart. Celts set about trying to reduce the arrears further, but despite putting pressure on Ely, they couldn't take their chances. With 15 minutes to go Ely broke free of the Celts defence and earned a penalty by drawing the keeper, Layth Saadi, into a foul. Ely scored from the spot to make it 5-1, and the match was lost! Celts kept playing good passing football and were unlucky not to reduce the arrears with Man of the Match Will Gray winning everything in midfield.A disappointing result but plenty of positives to take into November's fixtures. |
